The houses—-and now, the chairs—-offer a geometry to work against. They give evidence of human presence without depicting people. They are repositories of personal histories.Their forms are altered with time and use, creating their own characters. Still, they provide an order that invites a response of painterly chaos.
Louis Poole is a painter living and working in Richmond, Virginia. Selected exhibitions include solo and group shows at 1708 Gallery, Artspace, Visual Art Center of Richmond, Flippo Gallery, Wynn Bone Gallery, Piedmont Arts Center, and Longwood College. Poole's paintings are in the permanent collections of Bank of America, Capital One, the Medical College of Virginia, and the Federal Reserve, among others. His work has been published in New American Paintings and American Art Collector. This is Poole's first exhibition at Quirk.
